Sefer Hamidos

Kabbalah teaches that there is a spiritual system that controls the world where one action or element leads to another. Sefer Hamidos lists these causes and effects, and how to utilize them to progress in life and draw close to Hashem. The traits are listed alphabetically with there listed attributes. For example under ‘Sons’ it states that by honoring ones parents one merits having sons. Sefer Hamidos was written by Rebbe Nachman of Breslov from teachings he extracted from different holy texts. The book consists of two parts. The first part was written in his youth and the second part later on in his life. Rebbe Nachman stated that the second part was much deeper then the first. Sefer Hamidos is sometimes referred to as the Aleph Beis Book due to its alphabetical nature and as the Sefer Hanhagos Yesharos (“Straight Guidance”). Rebbe Nachman himself used his sefer to advance to high spiritual levels. Rebbe Nachman dictated the first part of Sefer Hamidos to Rebbe Nosson shortly after his arrival to Breslov, and the second part was given over later.
